A small rural village set in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, it lies on the B4069, just south of the M4 between Chippenham and Wootton Bassett. The Rising Sun was built in the 18th Century and was once a smithy and a Great Western Railways Ticket Office. It has had a chequered history, having been closed several times., most recently in January 2008. The villagers have fought hard to preserve it at the heart of the village. In September 2008 the Rawlings family purchased the Rising Sun and have lovingly renovated and extended the building, adding state of the art kitchens and cellars, before re-opening in July 2009. The Rawlings family have run food led pubs in North Wiltshire for 20 years, including The Old Royal Ship at Luckington and the Salutation at the Gibb. |

Christian Malford, so named because in Saxon times it was known as Christmal-ford; the ford near Christ’s Cross which is recorded in the Doomsday Book.
